Frequently asked questions
Last updated: September 2026
Short answers to what people ask before they start. Where another page is the authority on a subject — privacy, terms, what we do and do not claim — the answer says so and links to it.
What PathwayCheck is
What does PathwayCheck actually do?
You answer questions about your age, education, language results, work history and plans. PathwayCheck compares those answers with the published criteria of 131 immigration pathways across 14 jurisdictions — the federal programs, every province and territory, and Quebec's own selection programs — and tells you which ones appear to match, which need something you have not given yet, and which cannot be checked automatically.
It is a way of reading the rules against your own situation in one place, rather than a decision about you.
What does it not do?
It does not decide anything. It cannot approve you, submit anything on your behalf, or tell you that you qualify — no result ever says that, by design.
It is also not a substitute for advice about your own situation. For that, speak to a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or an immigration lawyer.
Is PathwayCheck part of the Government of Canada or IRCC?
No. PathwayCheck is an independent service operated by Forward Project Consulting Inc. in British Columbia. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for the Government of Canada, IRCC, or any provincial or territorial government.
Applying for immigration is always done through the government's own channels, never through PathwayCheck, and any government application fee is paid to the government — not to us.
Is this legal advice?
No. PathwayCheck gives general information based on published program criteria. It is not legal advice and not a determination of your eligibility.
Taking the assessment
How does the assessment work?
It is a questionnaire in eight stages — about you, language, education, work, province, family and a review. Questions appear only when your earlier answers make them relevant, so choosing a province adds that province's own questions.
Your answers are compared with each program's published criteria by rules we write and version from the governments' own published material, so the same answers always produce the same result. No chatbot or language model writes, scores or guesses any part of it.
What information do I need before I start?
Nothing prepared in advance. It helps to have your language test results, the dates of your education and work history, and an idea of your available settlement funds — but you can start without them and come back.
Anything you have not answered is listed on the Review step, so you always know what is still outstanding.
How long does it take?
That depends on how much of your history you have to hand, so we do not quote a time. You do not have to finish in one sitting — your progress is kept, and the Review step shows exactly what is left.
Can I save my progress and come back?
Yes. Before you sign in, your answers stay in the browser you are using. Once you sign in, your progress is saved to your account as you go, so you can continue on another device.
The questionnaire shows you when it has saved, and tells you plainly if it could not — it never says your work is saved when it is not.
Paying and what you get
What is free and what costs money?
The questionnaire and the Review of your answers are free. The detailed pathway results and the downloadable report are a one-time purchase — not a subscription, and never a recurring charge.
The exact price is shown before you are sent to pay, and it is the same figure everywhere it appears because it is read from our payment provider rather than typed into the page.
What do I get for the purchase?
Your full pathway results — every pathway assessed, with its status, the published requirements your answers meet, what is missing, what needs verifying, and links to the official government page for each — plus a downloadable PDF report of the same.
The sample result shows exactly what this looks like, for an invented applicant, before you spend anything.
When do I pay?
Only after you have finished the questionnaire and your answers are complete enough to assess. You are never asked to pay to start, and an incomplete assessment cannot be purchased — the Review step tells you what is still needed.
Does paying improve my chances, or guarantee anything?
No. Paying unlocks the detailed results of the assessment. It has no effect on any immigration decision, it is not a government fee, and it does not guarantee that you are eligible or that any application would be approved.
What happens after I pay?
Your results unlock immediately on the results page and the PDF becomes available to download. Your purchase is tied to your account, so signing in again on any device gives you access to it.
Accuracy and your information
How do you keep the immigration information current?
Every pathway records the official source it came from and the date that source was last checked. Those dates are tracked, and a source that goes past its re-check date is flagged internally rather than quietly trusted.
Rules change, sometimes without notice. Every result links to the official government page so you can confirm it yourself, and we say plainly when something cannot be verified automatically.
What happens to the information I enter?
Before you sign in, your answers stay in your browser. Signed in, they are stored on your account so you can continue elsewhere, and saved assessments are kept only when you choose to save them.
We do not sell your information, and you can delete your account and its data yourself from the Account page.
Do I need an account?
Not to take the questionnaire. An account is needed to keep your progress across devices and to unlock full results.
Signing in is a one-time link sent to your email address, or Continue with Google — there is no password to create or remember.
Can I get a refund?
You may request a refund within 14 days of purchase as long as your personalized results have not yet been provided. Once your personalized results have been generated and made available to you, the purchase is non-refundable. Purchases older than 14 days are also non-refundable.
If a technical problem on our side prevents us from providing your purchased results and we cannot resolve it, we will provide a full refund. Your rights under applicable law are not affected.
There is no self-serve refund form, and refunds are full rather than partial. If you paid on the website, write to support and a person reviews the request; the money goes back to the card you paid with. If you bought in the iOS app, ask Apple — App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not by us. Either way, a refund removes access to the results that purchase unlocked.
How do I get help?
Email support@pathwaycheck.ca. That reaches product support — questions about your account, a payment, or something not working as it should.
Support cannot advise on your own immigration situation or represent you; that is work for a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or an immigration lawyer. Please do not send passports, application documents or other sensitive files — they are not needed to help you, and we would rather not hold them.
A real person reads every message. We reply as soon as we can, and we do not promise a response time we cannot keep.
Still stuck?
If your question is about your account, a payment, or something not working, contact us. If it is about your own immigration situation, a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or an immigration lawyer is the right person to ask — we cannot advise on it.
